Life, including ecosystems, social interactions, and policy interventions are complex, and while some simplification of reality to try to make sense of it all is necessary, simplistic thinking and modeling can lead to market, policy, and other actions doomed to fail. This course dives into the complexity inherent in global systems and uses software tools to build models that help us build understanding and more effective solutions.

Provides foundational overview of the structure and function of the US healthcare system. Promotes critical discussion of history and current status of organizations and delivery systems. Examines challenges facing providers, patients, and policy makers, as healthcare becomes more complex. Utilizes current events and media to explore controversies related to labor, finance, access, and health disparities. Req: Admission to BPHM or BIS Program.

Students put into practice leadership skills & competencies through experiential learning preparing them for a lifetime of civic engagement as policy makers & citizens. Course emphasizes opportunities to use learned frameworks to evaluate real-world applications & will help students identify opportunities to engage in public life regardless of their chosen profession. Course serves as a bridge between the Batten education & life after graduation.

Innovation Garage will help students develop skills to build new businesses that leverage technology to scale. Guided by the instructors and guest coaches, students will develop startup ideas by applying well-known frameworks and lessons learned in building new ventures. The course emphasizes the need to understand the pain points experienced by potential customers, as well as determining whether a solution addresses those unmet needs. Prerequisite: EBUS 2830 or ENTP 1010

Provides basic overview of economic and financial management concepts in healthcare. Introduces important economic concepts and issues in healthcare including market factors, production, costs, labor issues, and economic evaluation. Provides an overview of basic financial management principles, capital planning, financial statements, and budgeting in healthcare organizations. Prerequisite: Admission to BPHM or BIS Program.

Directed writing project for students in the English Department's Undergraduate Area Program in Literary Prose, leading to completion of an extended piece of creative prose writing.

'Impact Investing' is the proactive deployment of financial resources to organizations for a positive return on investment and an additional, intentional social impact beyond financial returns. Impact Investing explores how funders (grant funders, investors, and policymakers) deploy capital to support social entrepreneurs. This course provides an introductory understanding of utilizing finance as a tool for solving social problems worldwide.

Provides a comprehensive analysis of individual and group behavior in organizations, and an understanding of how organizations can be managed more effectively and enhance the quality of employees' work life. Through the examination of leadership topics, explores the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in a diverse healthcare environment in a variety of situations. Prerequisites: Admission to BPHM Program; and completion of PSHM 3010

Students will learn the fundamentals of product management. Topics include identifying unmet needs, understanding markets, implementing product development frameworks and processes, building businesses, and working with multi-functional teams. The application of these concepts to different phases of the product lifecycle will be explored. Students will build technical, professional, and soft skills necessary for success in product management. Prerequisite: EBUS 1800 and enrolled in the Engineering Business Minor or Entrepreneurship Minor - Tech Concentration and 3rd or 4th year standing
