PLIR 3010

interactive. discussion amongst the class. not just lecture.

This class is a must take for anybody who wants to major in IR. I've found myself able to skip lectures in other IR classes because I had already learned the material from Legro. Don't bother taking PLIR 101, jump straight to this class.

tons of student participation and discussion. legro makes material interesting, as do debates and other class exercises. tough papers/midterm/final (hard to get an a). great class though.

i really enjoyed the class. like others, i would recommend this highly to anyone who's a foreign affairs major. it covers all the main theories that are discussed in other ir classes. the class was fun and he does more seminar styled than lecture. some of the readings were hard, but he breaks it down pretty well. i only read about half of them and still managed to do well in the class because i went to all the lectures. one of the classes, though, he had a group of students teach the readings, which i thought was a bad idea since it was one of the harder ones and i think it would have been better off if he just taught it himself. the debates, i thought, although made the class a little more interesting, could have been left out because i think a lot of people made a lot of pointless arguments. overall, really enjoyed the class and helpful in other ir classes.

Hands down Legro is the best professor I've had at UVa. He tells the class it's not a lecture on the first day and he's right. He manages to engage a room of 100+ students. You should definitely do the reading and "keep a journal." He guarantees you a good grade if you do so and he lives up to it.

Horrible class. boring. not easy.

The class starts off super interesting with thrilling readings and then quickly goes downhill. Overall its an ok class, with lots of quirky group work.

Important if you're an IR major; Legro goes over every major theory you'll encounter in other classes. Midterm and final were pretty straightforward when I took the class. The papers were very hard. Pretty interesting class, but not really my bag.

it's definitely not an essay class, weight on the participation and the reading responses. If you are a IR major, it's good to take it because it would go over all the theories, but be prepared, there are a lot of work.
