This is a fabulous class. Kershaw is incredibly engaging and makes even boring things sound rivoting. It's not an easy A but I think it really depends on the TA.

title of course may make it seem didactic and stuffy, but it was the best history course I've ever taken, and Kershaw is energetic and engaging
I love Professor Kershaw! He is the most enthusiastic professor and really enjoys teaching. I found the material very interesting as well.
Professor Kershaw is by far the best professor I have had at UVa, and this class is what made me decide to be a historian. Kershaw's lectures are engagin, fun and energetic. The exams and papers are fair and if you do the reading and pay attention you will easily do well, because he's looking for what you know rather than trying to trick you with hard questions. The material is fascinating and presented clearly, with an emphasis on primary documents. I highly reccomend any course taught by Kershaw, and this is a great place to start.
I loved this course! Professor Kershaw is very good at what he does and knows the material inside and out (admittedly a rather necessary qualification for a university professor). I learned a great deal and enjoyed it. My TA, Brent Jones, was very good as well.
