A fun introduction to greek mythology with a great professor. Miller is an excellent lecturer who always stays on topic. Five papers (two pages each, so not bad), a midterm, and a final. As long as you go to class you're golden. Pretty easy grading.

Professor Miller was a little dry but very enthusiastic about the subject. The class is not an easy A if you do not do the readings because the tests are show answer on very specific questions. Only take this class if you plan on committing 3-5 hours per week to do the readings and take notes on them.

I loved this class. Professor Miller is so passionate about Mythology and it shines through in his lectures. Grade consists of a midterm (30%), a final (30%), participation in discussion (20%) and completion of the weekly papers and quizzes (20%). I struggled with the midterm because Mythology is a ton of memorization, but it was manageable. The weekly papers are just busy work and an easy grade booster. Try to get Peter as your TA- he's really fun and super understanding. Overall, awesome class!

This class is incredibly interesting. Prof. Miller is very knowledgeable about myth and does a great job at expressing his excitement and fascination with myth. He can go off on tangents occasionally but they're usually pretty interesting, so it doesn't really bother anyone. It's really important to actually read the stories before lecture so that you know what he's talking about when he reviews them. I fell behind on some readings and it became very easy to tune him out when he was talking about a story that was entirely unfamiliar. Overall, this is one of the best classes ive taken at uva and I would strongly recommend it to all

I took this class with Miller and his class is really straight forward and all you really need to do is keep up with the readings to do well in the class. If you don't, you are incredibly screwed right before the final/midterm because there are just so many readings that you have to commit to memory. This is only an easy A class if you keep up with the readings. You have six one-paged essays that are due every other week and aren't bad and you only have one midterm and final which are free response. The class is pretty interesting and your homework is basically reading short stories and plays.

Really interesting material and professor. About 3-5 hours a week if you actually do the readings and five essay throughout the semester. Definitely go to class and the exams can be kind of hard if you don't read or go to class, but aren' too bad. Definitely one of the most interesting classes ive taken here.

A great class that goes towards the colleges humanities requirement. Prof Miller is an amazing story teller and so passionate about mythology. This class is so fun and makes you feel cultured when you leave. There is a good amount of reading and writing every week, and the weekly assignments are graded by your TA (they vary in quality but Peter M was superb). If you get behind it can be hard to catch up, but Prof Miller retells almost all of the readings in lecture so take very detailed notes and even record the lecture and you will do great on the midterm and final. Prof Miller and the Tas also curve grades slightly at the end for effort, upward trajectory, or personal reasons that may have hindered students who continues to try in his class. I got an A when I should have gotten an A-. Would recommend this class with Prof Miller any day!!

This class was a lot of fun and I would highly recommend it to anyone else. There is reading for each class and for discussion, but it is never a ton and it's not too hard to get through. There are 5 essays throughout the semester that are single-spaced and one page due during discussion and there are 2 discussion quizzes. There is a midterm and a final, and the final is not cumulative. The class is fairly easy, but sometimes the lecture can get pretty boring. I had a great TA, Vergil Parson and he made the course very interesting due to his enthusiasm for the topic. This class is a great choice when fulfilling requirements. #tCFspring2022

As passionate as he is, he makes the class unnecessarily hard and does not offer any direction. He expects you to know quite every single detail from the readings and also knowledge that he has not taught nor was in the readings themselves. The TAs are no help whatsoever and grade harshly too. Do not take this class for fun or even if you need it for a humanities requirment because the they are unforgiving.

This was one of the most worthwhile classes I've taken at UVA—I feel great knowing I have a solid basis of knowledge about the Greek mythology. Professor Miller is a really good lecturer, and his class is structured well. There are readings for each class including discussions, but the readings are incredibly interesting... because it's Greek mythology. There were also several short essays that deepened my thinking. The tests require a good amount of studying, and you better have read every single reading. But if you do so, then the tests aren't too hard (although the midterm felt rushed). Virgil Parson was my TA, and he was awesome. Highly recommended course.
