As a Classics major, I was enthralled with this class. I was very familiar with most of the material, but still found the class very informative and worthwhile. Dillery is a passionate and enthusiastic lecturer and all the Classics Grad Students are great so whatever TA you get will be more than satisfactory. The class is (oddly) mostly aimed at students with little knowledge of Greek culture and mythology, so it's very easy. 1 paper, a midterm and a final. Definitely take it.

Great class. There is a fair amount of overlap between Greek Myth and Greek Civ with Dillery, but the class was still very interesting. One midterm, one paper, one final. The tests are short answer, passage IDs, and a longer essay (two longer essays for the final). Dillery is a great lecturer--very passionate.

Dillery was a very captivating professor and kept the lectures interesting even when the material was somewhat dry. At times, the course definitely felt like more of a Greek civ class. The amount of reading was very doable and the content was interesting for the most part. The midterm and final were a little tough only due to limited time, but if you're prepared and write quickly, you'll be fine. I really had no Greek myth/civ background knowledge coming into this class and ended up with an A. Definitely recommend!

This class is great. I absolutely recommend to everyone. The reading not bad, and sometimes entertaining. Dillery is hardcore enthused about the class. Advise, pick your TA carefully- mine ended up being a harsh grader that took of points on my paper for grammatical mistakes, rather than content.

This class in not fun. This class is not easy. Do not make the same mistake I did and think you can get away with just going to lecture and rely on your basic understanding of Greek myth to get by. The midterm average was like a 70. If you sign up, make sure to actually do the readings and pay attention otherwise you're easy fun class will become a nightmare.

Dillery was a really great speaker. He's very passionate about the subject and it shows in his lectures. The first midterm was absurd - no one got an A, which in turn brought down everyone's final grades. That being said, the essay was fair and the final was actually very easy. I paid attention in class, did the readings, and studied a little before the tests and came away with an A-. Outside of the first midterm, I thought this class was great. It's no easy A, but it's very interesting and Dillery was awesome.

I came into this class thinking it would be an easy A-it definitely wasn't. The first midterm's average was a 70, which was absurd. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone who wants an easy grade.

I expected this class to be really fun, like storytelling. It wasn't. There was so much memorization. The midterm questions were really unfair, so the average was really low. Because of my midterm grade, I stressed about the paper and the final. These weren't bad so somehow I pulled out an A-, but I don't think the class was worth the hassle. This said, Dillery knows what he's talking about and he's a good professor. I always went to class and he went over the readings, so I didn't do them except for before discussion.
