Dr. Wagner is a really interesting and wacky guy. His stories in lectures are always interesting but can be easily related to the material. He doesn't put any comments on the papers so it is difficult to judge what you are doing wrong. I am a chemistry major and I still did very well so don't let the 3 papers discourage you. Definitely take this class if you like science fiction and it is a good way to satisfy area requirements.
Roy Wagner is very out there, but this class was very fun. His lectures usually consisted of crazy stories that didn't really apply to the readings, but they were interesting to say the least. The books assigned were fun science fiction novels that were easy to read, and there were only three papers. Even if you skim the books or look up summaries, you can still make an A in this class. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to get requirements out of the way.
This class is hella easy but going to class is worthless. He rambles about his trips to South America and Papua New Guinea instead of the book. He basically gives a summary of the book without any added analysis. The class is his rambling for 75 minutes. The paper topics are bizarre and usually don't have anything to do with the books. However, its three papers and no final exam
Let's be honest, Wagner is hilarious. He is completely out there and even if you only come to class the days papers are due, you'll be rather surprised at his mannerisms. Definitely not like any other class, and not really an "easy A." The books are either absolutely awful, or fairly interesting. If you want a class that you don't have to ever attend and has minimal work, take it-- but beware, even though he doesn't really grade below a B-, you never know what you're going to get.
I actually feel guilty being in this class... I just got back my 2nd paper and got an A+... I started writing it at midnight the night before it was due and didn't manage to read either of the two books the paper addressed. Wonderful!
Helpful hint: if you write on your paper "To be graded by Prof. Wagner" he will grade it and you WILL get a good grade. I haven't done this, but all of the athletes in the class do.
Wagner is on some other level. Even though this class is incredibly easy, I would not waste my money on going to his class when there are so many other, much more worthwhile, classes to be taken. If you want an easy class, this is it, but if you want a class that you will remember fondly after graduation, look elsewhere.
