The class is very memorization heavy, but Professor Dobbins is extremely straightforward about what to expect regarding quizzes (two quizzes), the midterm (33%), and the final (33%). Go to the lectures and do the reading beforehand. He tells you exactly what he expects you to write in regards to essays and short answers on his exams as well.
Professors Dobbins is really enthusiastic, and as long as you're willing to put forth the necessary work and energy, you'll do well.

Teacher was very engaging but you had to make an effort to become involved in the material
Took this as an "easy" humanities. Definitely got a surprise.
Dobbins is an engaging professor. GO TO THE LECTURES. You'll remember the pieces a lot better, not to mention know what sort of analysis he wants you to talk about during exams. Prepping for tests was basically making a huge stack of flashcards and going through them ad nauseum.
Fun and interesting class, though the lectures can be boring at times. Mr. Dobbins does use a lot of good anecdotes and comparisons to help explain the material though.
Tests and quizzes are virtually all memorization. An easy A if you're good at memorizing!
Ridiculous amount of memorization. Go to class even though it's boring because it'll help you remember the art better. Interesting material but really rough tests
great class. definitely required a lot of studying but dobbins really enjoys the subject and you really do learn a lot
Dobbins is such an adorable little man. There was a lot of material, but a very interesting class if you want an intro to the beginnings of the history of art. I loved my TA!
Great class!
This class was interesting in subject matter, and I absolutely loved Dobbins. His jokes and quirkiness made lectures more interesting. The class does require a lot of memorization, but as long as you can identify and know the basics of the works you should be good. I didn't think the grading was too harsh.
Dobbins is incredibly condescending, never really understood why he was well liked. Telling people how to use their computers in class is really annoying, he should be happy people come to class. Also filled with ambitious first years. Class really isn't too tough. Studied for 6 hours the night before the final and midterm without doing anything the entire semester and got an A.
