We will take up such questions by reading the philosophical literature on the rule of law and and by looking at case studies of situations where many have seen the rule of law to be under threat.

The course examines ethics, socioeconomics, and market demands for technologies, exploring whether the various issues emerging from biotechnological conflicts are best resolved by regulation, judicial intervention or private negotiation.
