Stretching 8000km, the Silk Road is a network of trade routes that provided a bridge between the east & west between the 1st & 14th centuries CE. The Silk Road flourished as a commercial & at times military highway. But more than that, it was a channel for the transmission of ideas, technologies, & artistic styles, with far-reaching impact beyond China & the Mediterranean world.
