Course Description

Traces the development of art in the Italian Renaissance. Considers mediums, techniques and materials, and the relation of painting to sculpture by reading period texts to determine the aims of art-making during the Renaissance. Focuses on the artists of the "High Renaissance," such as Leonardo, Raphael, and Michelangelo, while seeking to understand their works.
