I'm writing this review for Fall 2023. I have mixed emotions about the class. I find that this class was much harder than it had to be. Maybe it was because it was Prof. Schuff's first semester at UVA. However, I did feel like he was still an effective teacher. His lectures were not too dry and there was always discussion and an in-class activity of some kind to apply the learning.
The class consisted of a midterm, a final, a midterm, two case write-ups, a group project, case simulation and reading quizzes – a lot of opportunities for points. Do everything or you'll end up losing points for small things and it will add up, in a bad way. He was definitely tough on us on the grading for the final presentation. Some of its expectations weren't clearly communicated. However, if you go to him for help, you can sort of get the answer out of him or he will at least try to help you a lot. I definitely had to pay more attention in this version of the class versus Leopold's.

The class goes quite well with the content taught in Strategy & Systems for ICE 3rd-year students! There are a few (maybe 3 or 4) written assignments spread throughout the semester and one pre-class quiz per week on readings (open note/not timed). The quizzes are quite easy/clear, and the written assignments aren't difficult to get at least a 90 on if you put in a decent amount of effort! The case readings can be kinda long, but there are only 4 of them so it's not too bad (take notes during class discussions about how they connect back to class content and you'll be fine on the midterm/final!). The midterm & final aren't too difficult, but make sure to be familiar enough with content to write a brief summary/definition (~1-2 sentences) of what concepts/terms are because exams are all short-answer questions. Professor Schuff is a really nice guy- he doesn't judge if your responses in class discussions are wrong and is very willing to work with you as long as you ask him questions!
If you need a Comm elective, even if you aren't concentrating in Management or IT, this is a good, relatively none stressful class to take!
