If you are a politics major, this is a good course to introduce you to what research"is" in political science. There are some readings from the textbook, but I never really did them. They weren't necessary to the assignments. These included 4 presentations throughout the semester where you and your group had to create a research design. If you do not like presentations, this class is not for you! Finally, we had to do a research design outline that was printed and submitted in person.
