Tisha is a great professor! All of the class assessments are open-note, so if you take good notes you'll be absolutely fine. The material is really interesting and definitely useful for teachers. The structure of the class is: readings every week, 6 open-note un-timed quizzes, 3 in-class group case studies, open-note timed midterm, open-note timed final. Highly recommend!

Tisha is probably my favorite professor at UVa. The class was at a horrible time (7-9:45 on Thursday nights), but other than that this course was great. Tisha is absolutely hilarious and totally makes the class

Tisha is so great, it made going to class 7-10pm (and never getting out early) bearable. She gave take home quizzes and essay/case studies (also on midterm/final) but everything is open book (though usually timed). I really learned a lot in this class, I would really recommend it if you want to learn how kids learn to read.
