Readings weren't entirely necessary. Great class. Good professor. Goes off on lots of tangents but what's incredible is that he always thoroughly explained the topics in his lectures, with record time, too. Two of his favorite names include Chip and Buffy; thought Scarface was a good impression of the hostility between émigrés and the Mariel boat lift Cuban immigrants in 1980s Miami. But immigration is a serious topic, you guys.

Vickerman is a fantastic professor. He's very relaxed and approachable. A decent amount of reading, but you don't really have to do it all if you attend all lectures and pay attention. There's a 15 page research paper (on whatever topic you want to do it on, related to the course), a book review (5-6 pages) and a final. Overall great course!
If you are a sociology major and have not taken any classes with Vickerman before you must must must. He's super chill and his classes are really interesting and relevant. There is a term paper and final!
Another great class by Vickerman!!! The class details immigration and race in America and you learn a ton. The readings are great but not required. 2 papers but both are graded fairly easily. Only requirement really is that you come to every class but there are a lot of movies and interesting lectures so you will enjoy the class.
Prof. Vickerman is one of my favorite professors at UVA. Very knowledgeable and his classes are interesting and worthwhile. Very understanding and flexible.
One 15p paper and one 5p book review.
This was one of the best classes I've taken. It is such a rewarding class because you learn tons!! prof. vickerman is a really nice professor, he's really funny too!! You only have one paper (10 pages) and a final (which is pretty easy if you do a study guide with the whole class). Easy A/A- if you do the work...and you don't have to do any of the readings...even though they are very interesting!
