This is a great class to take, whether or not you think you'll be interested in sociology. The tests were based on some major concepts from the readings, and you'll do pretty well if you read at least half of them, or pay attention and take good notes during lecture because she goes over most of them. The research paper is long, but it's graded pretty easily, and you get a lot of help from the TA. Overall great class.

Pendergrass is a really awesome person, but some of her lectures can feel really slow. Course content is intro level and discussion really depends on the types of people that end up in them. Brooke is an awesome TA. She is very approachable and accessible. Overall, not a super demanding class and serves as a good way to dip your toes in the water of sociology.
Professor Pendergrass is great! She is one of the few professors who offers practice in writing before the paper. Her slides are also super helpful for studying. The midterm and final are also fairly easy.
Such a great class! Pendergrass is awesome and learns the names of all her students. There are a lot of readings but you can get easily get by if you go to class and only do 1 or 2 readings a week just so you can do the 150-250 word weekly reading responses graded on completion. There is one 9-10 page research paper but you turn parts of it in in increments. Participation is 30% of your grade and if you talk a few times in discussion and once or twice in lecture you'll probably get an A. The mid-term and final are short and heavily covered in lectures. Overall, great and easy class!
