I have taken Film I with Prof Marshall before and I loved both courses! He is one of the best professors at UVA! The material builds off film I but Prof. Marshall gives you enough background to help you if you did not take film I. Originally the course was 3 days a week but I appreciated that he listened to previous feedback and only had 50 min lectures on Monday and Wednesday instead of 3 days a week and then a movie viewing once a week. This course is pretty easy in terms of the work load. We had two movies to watch a week and there were easy (4-6 question) quizzes for each movie. This semester we had to write a brief write-up for each movie as a discussion post. We had a midterm, final, and a final research paper. Prof Marshall gives you a review PowerPoint for the midterm and the final and they were about 26 questions each. The final papers are fun because you can write about pretty much anything that relates to film.
