In S21 this course was taught by Walker Stern. We had a small lecture size of only around 10-14 students, which made it a cozy environment to ask questions and get good answers from Walker. He is fairly knowledgeable when it comes to many things beyond the material of the course, including the history of mathematics. The homeworks were appropriately open-ended and challenging for a graduate-level mathematics course and Walker is capable of providing great help during office hours, should you need it. My only gripe with this course was the final project. In groups, we wrote a short mathematical paper on a particular geometry (i.e. spherical, hyperbolic, etc). My group was a little difficult to work with, and although my section was thorough, well-explained, and free of errors, I had to take a C on the project as a result of errors from other students. Walker, like most professors at this University, has an idealistic view of project group dynamics and, consequently, grades strictly uniformly regardless of circumstances.
