This course has been the best preparation for a real job of any class I have taken at UVA. Garner is awesome, passionate, and works really really hard for his students. This does mean you will be spending 30+ hours in the lab the week that projects are due but you will learn a lot. He is transforming UVA's pretty traditional engineering program into one that prepares MechEs for 21st century jobs. Take this class, pay attention, and have fun.

This really is a great course. Garner is a passionate professor and really enjoys the material he teaches. The lab is well-equipped and you learn how to create interesting mechatronic systems. Highly recommended to anyone in Mechanical, Electrical, CS, or an Aero looking to round out their coursework.
All-around awesome class. It is refreshing to have a class like this, taught by a professor like Dr. Garner. The labs can take a bit longer than the allotted time, but they are [almost] all very interesting. It's safe to say that for me, this was the most enjoyable and useful class I've taken while at UVA.
Garner is a great professor; he really cares about the class. Can be a lot of work, but is actually fun if you try at all
My favorite class that I have ever taken at UVa. You learn things you will actually use
This is by far the best class I have taken at UVa. Professor Garner is the most dedicated professor that I have seen and has made this class into an exciting and fun experience. I became an engineer because I loved hands-on stuff, and this class really brought that out. I highly recommend it even for non-mechanical engineers.
Required class, but the best one I've taken in the Mechanical major. Garner knows how to get students engaged and labs were enjoyable.
It's required so you have to take it. It's an ok class if you're not that interested in the subject matter. If you stay with the readings and study the book, you'll do just fine.
