Although the more modern lit was not DeVan's element, he was still a good TA. The course's rubric required that he gave us a quiz at the start of each discussion. The questions were very easy if you had done the reading. He leads discussion well, allowing students to do the leading with their own questions. He prepares you well for the papers, asking you to get into small groups and discuss well in advance what you are going to write (and he goes around and discusses with you to make sure that you have some kind of plan). He is very easy to talk to and never makes you feel stupid for asking a question even if on the syllabus. Very helpful TA and made a discussion that I looked forward to going to.
