One of the best classes I have taken at UVA. Lauren is an excellent teacher and she is very supportive of her students. The small class size helps everyone to know each other and be comfortable taking risks with their voices (i.e playing with pitch). Grading is almost entirely made up of class participation, a weekly paragraph where you analyze a speech online, and 4 presentations: a personal story, a monologue, a presentation with a visual aid, and the 5-7 minutes final which can be on pretty much anything you want. If you come to class, do the weekly paragraphs, and practice your presentations well, this class is an easy A. During the semester I took this class, there were also two EC opportunities which can increase your final grade by 2%.
