Coppock expects a great deal from his students, but it you stay engaged and keep up with the readings, it's totally manageable. Highly recommend.

very interesting class. midterms are hard because he is extremely specific. you will come out of the midterms feeling you didn't have the chance to demonstrate your true understanding of the material.

I am slightly ambivalent about this course. Professor Coppock definitely knows the material and he makes each class enjoyable. Nevertheless, I had some issues with the way he structured the exams (midterm=30% and final=50%). It seemed as if he was looking for a very specific information in each question that he posed to the students and if you didn't answer it explicitly he would deduct points. Unlike other courses where you can have some degree of control over your final grade, in this class I had no clue. I would advise you to take this class if you are sincerely interested in learning about public choice and want to put in the extra effort. Otherwise, simply relying on lectures notes and going with hearsay may not work to your advantage. I applaud the professor for his effort though.

Disagree with the writer who mentioned one should take 301 before taking this class - totally unnecessary. It does make a nice complement to 431 (public sector), though, and taking 333 will make 443 (environmental) a breeze. Exams are based entirely on lectures, and Coppock is great. Put away your 202 bitterness - that's a bad class, whoever is teaching it
