I need to fulfill my foreign language requirement and I thought that Chinese would be the most interesting and helpful. I'm glad that the class has challenged me so much, but boy is it hard!!! If you've made it through CHIN 1010 already, then you're aware of how Chinese is every day and there's a daily quiz! That continues in this class. Of course, there's more flexibility in this one and there's less of a focus on the basics like radicals and stuff, but that's because now you're expected to know stuff and it's super hard. The workload is a bit more than CHIN 1010 which means it's A LOT, but you are learning so much and can see your progress easily. The classroom dynamic is the same where Laoshi goes through her powerpoint and helps us practice certain things she teaches us by calling on us which totally stresses me out and I hate that part of Chinese, but it does push people to be better speakers so that's good. This is definitely the hardest class I've taken, but Laoshi is definitely a good teacher and she's so caring and kind to her students!

I love Zhao Laoshi! She is really tough on her students, but she means well. She really just wants her students to do well and improve. If you just pay attention in class and participate regularly, you will be on her good side. Her grading is fair and there isnt much homework besides weekly blogging and a test every two weeks. If you put in some effort you should be able to manage an A super easily.

Zhao laoshi is a really great teacher! She really cares about the students, and makes the class so much better than it would be otherwise. It's a lot of work, but definitely worth it.

Zhao Laoshi was a really great Chinese prof! She's very nice and really cares for students! Although there is a ton of homework (tingxie previews, grammar, reading and listening, preparing for weekly oral exams or biweekly tests) you will learn A LOT and that feeling is so worth it. Zhao laoshi can be kind of strict (she took off points for writing wrong characters on tingxie preview sheets), but that will help you learn I guess. Overall, I really recommend Zhao laoshi!

Zhao Laoshi is absolutely fantastic. She is extremely helpful and makes the class interesting. She is the reason I strongly considered becoming a Chinese Language and Literature major.
