Such an awful class. Lab reports take 6-8 hours per week because they are atleast 10+ pages (don't let the TAs fool you that the reports will be concise). Vijay is not very smart and grades very randomly and does not know the concepts himself (mixtures melt at a wide range of temperatures because the individual components are melting at different temps, are you kidding?) Grade distribution was pretty bad for us (11% As?). The lab reports were an overkill for the concepts. These are pretty much the same labs first years do in chem 142L and they get away with filling out worksheets while we have to write massive lab reports. Terrible end to the 80s series.

metcalf is awesome and subtly hilarious. the class has no prelab tests, postlab anything, no midterms and no finals. just lab reports. which throws your grade into concern now and then, but i'd trade uncertainty for lack of final any day
Labs and concepts are generally easy, laid back, and sometimes fun (compared to orgo). Lab reports are time consuming and stretch out what could be a page-long worksheet into a 10+ page report.
Lab lecture is fairly useless, but the handouts are pretty good.
Lab reports. That's it. If you're curious enough to probe the deeper chemical principles, this is actually an extremely rewarding lab. If not, it's tolerable. It was certainly a welcome change after 2 semesters of hell in organic.
Lectures were worthless (all the information you needed to know was in the handouts). Labs themselves were generally pretty quick and relevant to the topic. No midterm or final.
Easy class, but the lab reports can be confusing sometimes. Graded very nicely though.
