This may not be a popular opinion, but I think Yong Kim taught well and I actually liked the way the class was taught. There were no homeworks, quizzes, projects pr groupwork. The entire grade was based on the two midterms and the final. He'd give out thick packets to learn the material and if you memorized each and every thing in those packets you were set for an A- at least. During lecture he'd just go over/explain the stuff in the packets so most students started skipping it. Essentially this was just a memorization class with little understanding involved, and personally I liked that. There are minor things such as his pronunciation is hard to understand at times and his hand writing isn't that great, but other than that the class was good. Just don't start memorizing the packets a couple days before exams. Start WAY before

Yong Kim was a trip.

That being said, he retired this year (Spring 2015) so the new professor will most likely change the class format.

Going to class is optional but sometimes he takes attendance that he says may tie into his curve. I didnt go to one class after spring break and still did well on the exams. Just study the notes the TAs upload and you will be good. Just make sure you have enough time to study, the night before will not be enough to do well, since the exams are very detailed.

There is zero reason to go to class. If you spend more than one night before the exam studying the packets then you will get at least a B+. If you spend three nights before the exam studying you are on track to get an A. It is a course that requires total memorization, and the professor encourages this behavior by making his tests a way to spew out random facts. Do not go to class and study in advance.

Kim is super cute but after exam 1, there is really no reason to go to class. Just memorize everything in the packets the TAs post on collab and you'll be fine. To be honest, I would recommend going to office hours instead of class if you want to do anything. I got an A and didn't go to a single class after the first exam so you'll definitely be fine.

No homework. Go over the handouts at least 4 times. Memorize and quiz yourself several times. Don't feel bad about yourself if you miss lectures. I have seen students who don't go to class get A's.

Professor Kim is nice and funny. All the material you nee to know is in the packets which coming to class helps you digest so I would recommend attending lectures.

Great class. A ton of information to take in, but that is all there is to the class. Memorize you're class notes and you should be good to go. Yong Kim is the man.

Dr Kim is the best. He's really passionate about his teaching and will be sure to make you laugh occasionally. Only grades are the tests, so study hard for each one and you'll do well.
