Homyk is a poor lecturer; he has the irritating habit of repeating things over and over again, and says "you know" 10-15 times a minute (I counted). He also says some things that would make it difficult for a physical scientist to take him seriously (e.g. energy is released when bonds are broken, the nucleus doesn't fall apart because the neutrons shield the protons from each other--NO NO NO!!!!!!!). Take this if you have to, but for meeting a requirement or for fun choose something else. Personally I am very relieved I am no longer pre-pharm and don't have to take the second semester of this.

Prof. Homyk adds 4-5 points to your final grade for good attendance so make sure you go to class since these points can save you. Taking good notes is crucial since the book has a lot of material not covered on the test. Prof Homyk is easily available and very helpful outside of class. Not the easiest of science classes, but if you put in the effort a "B" starts from a 77.5 with good attendance.

Awful professor. Could barely hear what he was saying during lecture. I seriously don't know how he was tenured at UVA...

professor was a little bit boring. The material is kinda difficult, but if you have some kind of science background you should be able to do just fine in the class

If you listen and take good lecture notes, this class is extremely easy. For bio majors, it is mostly just a review of what you have already learned. Tests are very straightforward and based on his lectures only. Homyk is always willing to meet with students outside of class too for those who are struggling. You learn a lot about anatomy, which is very applicable to those who want to continue a career in health fields.

This class is awful. Homyk tries really hard and I think he genuinely cares about his students, but he should NOT be a lecturer. Admittedly, the material is very interesting, but be warned...lecture is painful. By the way, he takes attendance, but it's only for extra credit (but it's worth it...just go to class)

Homyk is a pretty boring professor, but he really cares about the subject matter and is very accessible for outside help during office hours. Definitely take advantage of the office hours - he has been known to emphasize stuff that the exam essays are going to be on.

Prof. Homyk is cute and funny but he's really hard to hear. I'm not sure if it's the acoustics of the room or his sound equipment. Content is pretty difficult but I was required to take it for nursing.

An easy class for most Bio majors, (the first third is mostly chemistry and covering basic organic compounds) but if you're not a Bio major be prepared for the class to be a bit challenging. Homyk isn't a bad lecturer, and he's enthusiastic, but lectures can be somewhat boring.
