Professor Maanaki has got to be my favorite professor at UVA. Arabic is not easy, but he makes it very approachable for his students. He assigns a decent amount of homework, but he truly wants students to learn in his class. He cares more about this than grades themselves -- so don't worry about the grade. Maanaki is the best first-step to Arabic! He has a great sense of humor, and creates a comfortable environment for students to learn and thrive. He is always available for extra help, and is incredibly dedicated to his work -- going above and beyond to make sure students get the most out of the class.

Bilal is great! He jokes, has a very relaxing demeanor, and does his best to engrain basic Arabic into everyone. Some portions of the class can be repetitive and the homework very laborious, but it works wonders in improving your understanding of the language. Show up to his standards and enthusiasm and you'll be well-suited for the next level of Arabic.

Professor Maanaki is the best professor to take an Arabic class with! The workload is extremely manageable and he is always more than willing to put in the extra effort to help his students. Tests and quizzes were very doable if you paid attention in class and did the assigned homework.

Professor Maanaki is the best! He creates a very comfortable classroom environment, which puts everyone at ease. However, his grading can be pretty arbitrary at times. Other than that, I highly recommended his class!

He's such a great teacher! he is very engaging and is hands down the best arabic professor. However, he never post grades which can be frustrating and he can be not organized sometimes.

Bilal is funny, helpful, and just an awesome professor--in my opinion, the best in the Arabic department. Highly recommend!

Obviously this isn't an easy class, but Bilal makes it a class that you enjoy coming to. He creates an environment where you can speak up and not feel bad about making mistakes, and knows his stuff. He is very willing to help and wants to see everyone do as well as they can. He sometimes takes some time getting assignments back
