Professor Harold is an amazing lecturer and I always looked forward to class. She incorporates photography, film, music, text, personal anecdotes, and research perfectly throughout the semester. All of the assigned readings were worth doing and it pays off when you can incorporate them into your answers for essays. Grades came from about five quizzes and three test. Quizzes were easy if you went to lecture and took notes on the essential terms, it was formatted as fill in the blank. Test were a mixture of the essential terms once again and then an essay question that was provided beforehand. This class is worthwhile and one that you will want to put work into! One of my favorite courses from my first year.

I feel like the TAs sometimes show favoritism when grading the essays, so if you take the class get on their good side.

Claudrena Harold is an amazing professor and im so glad I took this class. Pretty easy overall, Lots of reading assigned but you don't even need to do half of it to get an A. She send out all powerpoint slides and teaches you so much. She's hilarious, passionate and makes you passionate too. It helped me understand the black condition through American history a lot more, and she always makes it feel like a safe space of learning, unity and respect. TAKE THIS CLASS

Claudrena has been the best professor that I have had at UVA. She KNOWS her stuff and lectures in a freestyle manner that is very organized. She can be very comedic at times which adds a great dynamic to the class. The class is not difficult if you learn the key terms and study the essay prompt for the exams. Great class. I would recommend to anyone at UVA.

Claudrena Harold is the best!! She is my major adviser and I wish all my classes were taught by her! You do not need any background information regarding the topic and all you need to do is attend class and have fun. There is no way you cannot get an A; unless you want to do badly. It will add a level of fun to your semester.

Great Class! Professor Harold is energetic and passionate. The reading load is on the heavier side for some weeks but they're interesting and her interpretations are worth going to class for.

very interesting class if you like learning about Black History. Plus Prof. Harold is really fun, and you can tell how excited she is about what she is teaching. If you can, go to her office hours because shes super approachable and great to talk to.
