Archie is one of my favorite professors at UVA. He's the most friendly person, and is very knowledgeable about the material. Even though the subject matter is very difficult, he makes it bearable and easy to understand. His lectures are very engaging, and he's open to student's opinions on different aspects of his class. His office hours are very helpful and he really wants you to understand the material.
As stated before, the course is very difficult. The main problem is getting some of the conceptual aspects down - it's hard to wrap your head around them, and the best way to understand them is to keep doing problems. Once you have your head around the main concepts, the rest of the course comes a lot more easily. This class is the core of most of your EE knowledge, so its important to get an understanding of the main concepts.
The class has two midterms, weekly quizzes, advanced hw (design) problems, and a final. The design problems you do in groups and they are probably the most difficult part of the course. They really make you think, but Archie is very helpful with these. The quizzes were done through WebAssign for my class. You get multiple attempts (same/similar problems different numbers) to do, but it gives you the correct answers after each attempt, so make sure you understand how to get those answers before attempting again.
Overall, it's an enjoyable, albeit difficult, class that is required for all EEs and CpEs.

Archie is my BEST memory throughout my undergraduate learning experience. He is sincere, nice, and an expert in material. I love him and really respect him a lot.
Yes, materials are hard. However, practice makes better. The more questions you do, the better your grade will be. Archie provides many ways for you to learn, including online quizzes, exams, design problems. He is an innovative guy who also use course recording system and has all lecture slides posted online and accessible to us. With the help of all the resources he provided to us, I am sure that everyone would really learn a lot. I am actually an international student so that English is not my first language. However, those course recordings and lecture slides and all other stuff helped me a lot in learning and repeating.
Sincerely, Archie gives me a best learning experience I've ever had in life. He answered questions timely and are always ready to help.
I admit that materials are tough. However, you can really learn a lot while studying. Archie is the best best best professor I've ever had.
Great professor, relatively easy course. There's a lot to be learned if you've never taken circuits before, but anyone with a basic background in electronics should get by with little effort.
Archie doesn't do a great job teaching this class, but his grading on exams, especially the final, helps you get a decent grade. The book is pretty much useless, everything you need to know about solving problems is taught in class. There is no need to focus on anything but solving problems because he doesn't test you on anything else.
It's a really fun class, but would challenge you at the beginning of semester. Stay focused and it gets easier.
This class is not easy. Both homework sets and advanced homework sets (group work) are time consuming but manageable. The tests are extremely difficult, but Archie has a corrections system that lets you get a lot of points back. Archie definitely cares about his students and wants them to succeed, but doesn't necessarily teach the content in the most effective manner.
Archie is smart but his lectures do not help much. Very few practice problems are done in class and full solutions are rarely given. The labs were a complete waste of time and I feel like I have accomplished nothing by doing them. Also, much time was wasted with the webassign quizzes trying to figure out whether it was Archie or I that messed up on an answer, because sometimes the answer is wrong. He is helpful during office hours, however, so do as many problems as you can and then ask for help.
This class is tough. Make sure to have a good study group around you to help prepare for midterms and complete homework. Archie is a great guy, but he's sometimes frustrating to deal with. For example, homework will often have mistakes, and he doesn't give any partial credit on long, multi-step exam problems.
Archie is an amazing professor. He will work with you as much as you need and is incredibly fair when it comes to grading. His final is only half graded, so if there is a possible of 500 points, he only grades 250 of those points. Go to his office hours and you will do well.
Difficult, a lot of work, should really be worth 4 credits. That said, Archie has very accessible office hours and is happy to help you if in-class time isn't enough for you. You can do well in this class but don't expect to get an A without serious work and struggle to reach the top of the pile. As said before, the labs aren't worth anything.
