Hands down one of the best professors I've had. You can genuinely feel the passion radiate from Professor D—not just for the material, but for helping us grow as thinkers.
His class structure is definitely a "love it or hate it" type of setup, but I genuinely loved it. At the start of each and every class, we were placed into small groups of 3 or 4 (based on where we sat), and throughout the session, he’d ask thoughtful questions that guided us toward the core themes of the reading. We’d discuss our answers in the group before possibly being cold-called to share. As someone with pretty intense anxiety, that chance to talk it through with peers first made a huge difference.
The workload was extremely manageable, usually a 20-25 page reading per class (honestly light for a politics course) and a simple writing assignment each week that took about an hour. Occasionally, he’d surprise us with a pop quiz, but those were also done in groups and only counted for participation. In place of a midterm and final, we did two hack-a-thons in groups, which were both fun and intellectually engaging.

Overall, I loved this class and would 100% recommend it, especially if you dread exams/quizzes and being cold-called solo.
