Great instructor, minimal to no workload, optional readings, take-home quizzes, attendance is part of grade but good class to get work done, wouldn't take unless needed for a requirement or you are genuinely passionate to an extent that you would seek out the course's readings for fun.

I signed up for course forum just to write this review. Professor Harold is outstanding and truly cares about student academic success and well-being outside of the classroom. Her course absolutely reflects her thoughtful nature. Absolutely do-able for newer students of history/non history majors as well as engaging for history majors. She absolutely prepares you well for the 5 or 6 quizzes across the semester and the midterm and book reviews are very much feasible to do extremely well on. Lots of media in lectures, she makes thematic points clear and easy to follow, and I personally love her inclusion of music and how it developed in this period. Overall, TAKE THIS COURSE. You will not regret it, if anything it will most likely be one of your favorites of the semester. Please enjoy!

Not bad. Sort of boring all the time, but great professor.

Professor Harold is so cool and knowledgable. She does grade on participation/attendance so you have to go to class and say something every now and then but she is so interesting it doesn't matter. Quizzes and 40% of tests are fill in the blank vocab and the other 60% of tests is an essay you have beforehand. Not a history major but probably my favorite class I've taken at UVa.

There are 3 quizzes throughout the year and 2 exams. She tells you exactly what's going to be on the quizzes and exams. Easiest history class out there. Enjoyable too

Professor Harold is awesome. Only two exams (no final) and 3 quizzes. She prepares for all of them and basically tells you what will be on them.

Fantastic lecturer, top of her field. Pretty easy grader which is great because you feel no pressure to meet arbitrary grading standards, but she makes sure you actually know the content and engages you in a way that you learn a ton regardless.

Harold is an awesome professor. Very down to earth, and very approachable. She is very interested in her subject matter, and goes out of her way to make life easy for her students. Grading is VERY easy.

She assigned so many unnecessary readings on collab. There are many organized professors here at Uva but I am not adding her onto the list. She is a very nice person, but this class is not a thriller.
