TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Prof. Hopkins is exactly the type of person you'd think would teach a class about Vikings and Norse mythology. He's super nerdy but is a fun lecturer and makes the content super enjoyable. The reading can be a bit of a slough sometimes and you definitely need to take notes on it because he has 6 pop reading quizzes throughout the semester to check comprehension and as a way to check attendance. You're allowed to use your handwritten notes on paper so if you take notes on the reading, make sure they're not on your ipad or computer because you won't be able to use those for the quiz. You also can't use your book so don't take notes in the margins. These can't be made up but he provides extra credit opportunities that replace your lowest grade. Other than that, there are some Canvas discussion posts and then a midterm and a non cumulative final (basically a second midterm). The exams are super easy because almost half the content is reading quiz questions that are literally copied and pasted in. If you miss a reading quiz, it's super important to get a copy from him because you'll 100% need it to study for the exam. You can bring one single sided page of handwritten notes to the exam which I found to be more than enough space to get things written down. Classes are useful to discuss the texts and make sure you understand what's going on but towards the end of the semester I started zoning out. You just need to be able to define a few key terms on the exams and write a couple of short essays about the general topics of the readings. #tCFS25
