This is such a fun course, with an equally fun professor who is passionate about the material she teaches. This course was called "Tragedy and Transgression," and it featured works like "Hamlet" and "Frankenstein," among others. The class's discussion dynamic was excellent. I came out of this course with a better understanding of tragedy and what it means. If you're a 1st or 2nd year (I don't think you can take it past that), take it!

Take this course!! Kinney is so passionate about these works, and her enthusiasm for exploration and discussion are exactly what you want in an English class. As a first-year, Tragedy and Transgression was an amazing introduction into UVA, and it had the perfect balance of assignments (no big papers except a creative assignment at the end, and the tests are fine if you've read everything and kept up with discussion). You have to take Kinney if you're even mildly interested in English before you leave UVA.
