Fantastic professor. Really passionate about teaching (and really good at it). The course is designed very well. While difficult, the exams are fair and you will be fine grade-wise.

This is a fantastic class. Tychonievich is a fantastic lecturer who clearly knows what he is talking about and is able to explain concepts in an understandable and interesting way. The material in this class, being a computer architecture class, is necessarily difficult. However, the work isn't impossible and it never feels like busy work. Almost all out of class time is spent on programming assignments, which will take anywhere from 2-10 hours depending on how comfortable you are with C and the concepts and how willing you are to ask for help. Diagrams and examples in class are relevant and interesting. One of my most highly recommended classes, and if you can't take this class you should take some other class with Professor Tychonievich.

I took computer organization and architecture 1 with Professor Tychonievich. He is a fantastic teacher who knows his subject and how to teach it. For nearly every question I ask, he has an immediate answer, and can actually explain complicated topics in understandable ways. I came in thinking I would dislike COA 1. Thanks to Professor Tychonievich, it's now my favorite class. He's the kind of professor I would take a class I'm not as interested in just to have him as a teacher.
