One of the best classes at UVa! Professor Foutz is a great teacher that wants everyone to have fun. She thinks actual learning is more important than grades, so most evaluation is based on participation/effort rather than assessments. Really interesting topics including music industry, cinema, video games, future of technology. All projects are done in groups and based on the topic you pick. #tcf2016
Foutz thinks she is really funny which is pretty entertaining. She means well. The projects people come up with are actually really cool and Foutz knows a lot about the movie industry which is cool. The class is like a 15 minute reading once a week maybe but then the group projects you have to put effort into and put a lot of info in the notes section of the powerpoint. I would definitely recommend it just because movies, music, magazines, events it's just a fun topic and the projects are great. Also speak up in class for participation but weekly work is almost nothing. Easy to get an A- and really hard to get an A. #tcf2016
Awesome class, don't be daunted if you have it at 8am too because Foutz brings so much energy every lecture. She started class at 8:15 to let us sleep in some more and always brought snacks, as a testament to how much she really cares for and loves her students. The course is basically no work besdides a case reading every which (which she doesn't get to in class a lot of the time) and two group presentations -- one about an entertainment industry, and our second being an actual consulting project for an indie film that was shot by directors from Cville. Foutz brings so many cool guest speakers in an aggressively encourages people to network to help her students try to learn more and find jobs in the industry. The one thing I will say is both group presentations are pretty self-motivated with no time to work on it in class, so make sure you get a good group who won't just leave it until the last minute (they're both around 25 minutes). As long as you put in good effort and be creative, the projects are really fun and interesting and she'll give you an A. The class gave me a ton of stuff to talk about in interviews after learning the dynamics of different entertainment industries, and Foutz is so passionate about teaching it to her students. A must-take if you have any interest in working in entertainment.
