I loved this class. Professor Hantman is a really cool, funny guy. But, he does get off topic and often spends 40 minutes going over something that really only needed 10. So if you're the type of student that really gets annoyed if lectures aren't straightforward, maybe rethink this class. The books assigned are really interesting and easy to read. The class is not hard at all. The midterm is worth the most of your grade and mostly just involves straight memorization. Nothing tricky. I would recommend to anyone interested in evolution. Its definitely a nice break if you're science/math heavy and you'll take a nice bit out of it.

The actual material you read in Our Origins (the book he uses) is VERY interesting (if you like anthropology, biology, darwin etc.) but the lectures are literally death... Prof Hantman is such a cute little man but I can't remember a single lecture where i wasn't desperately clicking on stumble upon to stay awake. there are only three exams, and it is best to just thoroughly read the material. Attending lectures is not going to make or break your grade, and probably not really necessary. Great topic but lectures suck. not that hard for the most part, no homework!

Straight forward class. Easy to fulfill the archaeology requirement for anthro majors. Hantman is a really nice and funny guy. Sometimes, you wonder if he tries to walk like an Australopithecus boisei

The class first half of the class is really easy, to the point that you really don't need to pay attention or go to class. After the first test, though, he shifts a bit to material that is a little harder. The reading becomes more essential to getting a nice grade and you should pay attention in discussions.

Kind of a boring class. Didn't feel like I really got anything out of it. Reading was the same as going to lecture. All in all, nothing special.

Not typical anthropology at all, no cultural relativity etc. Not very difficult, interesting material you won't learn in other courses. Nice complement to biology classes.
