I decided to apply for this course because I did some theatre sound work in high school. I managed to get in and the class was certainly an experience. First of all, Professor Rasbury is incredibly patient and is more than willing to help out at any point of the process. There are four projects that the class centered around. First one is about editing a song down to a minute, second is about creating a realistic indoor environment using sound effects, third is creating sound to an image of abstract art, and fourth is more of your choice, with most putting choosing to replace sound effects over a video clip. A design statement needs to be submitted before the start of each project, explaining what you will be doing. For someone who did not has not fiddled with music editing/sound design before, I think I did pretty well. There is no prior experience required and there is not much that you would need since he goes step by step breaking down the process. There is a lecture or two at the beginning of each project to explain sound from an artistic and scientific standpoint and of course the project guidelines. If you are productive during class then you probably won't need to work outside of it. There is a schedule outside of the lab that shows when it is in use, go when it is not. Students will get swipe access to the ADA theater entrance that should work after-hours.

great class, very chill and you learn a lot of cool things/making your own music and what not with WP etc,, Though attendance is a must now or that can really set you back grade wise, but tbh, if you put in the effort, there is no reason you cant get an A. professor was great and overall would recommend .
Extremely knowledgeable about the technicalities regarding the DAWs that are covered in this class and gives a very comprehensive introduction to music editing and editing. Also has a good knowledge on theatre related sound design!! Take this class!
Michael Rasbury is the coolest proffesor. He knows a lot about theatre sound design and music recording. If you have any interest in either take this class.
This is a great class with a cool professor.
It is a very practical class and an enjoyable learning experience. Michael Rasbury is the greatest.
Easiest and most enjoyable class at UVA. Lots of overlap with Music & Technology (MUSI 339).
Great class. THis guy is a cool dude, and this stuff is the kind of stuff you really do want to learn.
