This was one of my favorite classes. Professor Cohoon is really nice and presents the information in a way that is easy to understand. Be sure to read the chapters because they will help you. Luther is really funny.

A very solid class. Prof. Cohoon is nice guy, very approachable, and is enthusiastic about the material. His lectures can get somewhat boring, but for the most part he presents the material an interesting way. There is a ton of help available from the TAs (all former students), but Luther is by far the best. As for the class, very simple. Homework rarely took more than an hour, although you do have an assignment due practically every class. Tests were simple and exactly what you could expect. This class really made me consider switching to Computer Science if the Comm School did not work out.

Good class. Homework is easy and doesn't take too much time. Cohoon isn't the best explainer but he has a great personality. The TA Luther, however, is brilliant at making concepts clear.

Great class. Prof Cohoon cares about what he teaches and has put a lot of work into designing this class as an alternative way to learn CS 101. You can only take this class if you have NEVER had any programming class before, and if you promise to participate. (You need to get professor permission) Highly recommended for anyone, engineer or college. Even if you don't think you would like programing, take it. You may be surprised. If you don't, the class is still a great exercise in problem solving that you can use in any field.

Cohoon - not the best prof but he means well and definitely keeps it interesting. Learn by doing, so go to office hours and you'll be totally.

Definitely a fun class. Professor Cohoon is a wonderful person and very helpful in office hours, even if you just go to talk about anything. The class was easy to understand and there was not much work.

Hands-down the greatest course I've taken at UVA, and one of the greatest professors. Simply the nicest guy, always available to help you if you're not understanding things with the TAs (who usually do a pretty good job, too; Luther is THE MAN). Cannot recommend this course enough. If you don't have prior experience and are choosing between CS1110 and CS1112, take 1112 with Cohoon.

Professor Cohoon is an excellent teacher who really wants to see his students do well and learn an appreciation for Computer Science. I had no experience with CS before taking this class, and after taking this class I absolutely love it! This is an amazing class, try hard to get into it!
