I would not recommend Professor Kulkarni's class to anyone. I recently took a class with her and it was a terrible experience. She didn't know how to teach, was unprepared for class, and was unable to answer basic questions. She also did not provide any feedback on assignments and had a very disorganized approach to the course. Overall, she was not a good professor and I would not recommend her class to anyone. Every homework unless it was perfect was an 85% and her tests were a mixed bag some really hard questions and some not so hard questions.
I recently took a course with Professor Kulkarni and, unfortunately, had a negative experience. One of the biggest issues was the lack of organization in the class. It was difficult to follow along and understand the material because the structure of the course was not clear. Additionally, Professor Kulkarni seemed to assume that we all had a much higher level of knowledge than we actually did, which made it even harder to keep up.
I also found that I learned more from watching YouTube videos on my own than I did in class. The class seemed to focus more on current events and topics like bitcoin, rather than on the practical skills that would be useful in the workforce, such as using Excel. As a result, I feel unprepared for the next level of investments.
The homework and grading system in the class was also problematic. We were given a grade of 85 no matter what, and the short answer grading was very subjective, which made it difficult to understand how to improve and what we needed to do to succeed in the course.
Overall, I would not recommend taking a course with Professor Kulkarni. You may be better off choosing a different professor who is more organized and focused on providing practical skills that will be useful in the workforce. not to be mean to her nice person to talk to but teaching this course may not be suited for her.
Professor Kulkarni is the GOAT.
Reviews from previous years scared me, I thought I’d have a terrible time and fail the class basically. I was proven completely wrong and pleasantly suprised.
Professor Kulkarni does a great job breaking all the content down (weekly problem sets to test comprehension, tests that focus on understanding of how all concepts connect, taking breaks for class pulse checks) AND she’s always open. She shares personal anecdotes both personal and academic which creates a positive class environment.
I wouldn’t want to take this class with another professor. Highly highly recommend.

I had the pleasure of taking the course with Professor Kulkarni, and I can confidently say that she is by far my favorite finance professor at McIntire. Her teaching style transforms the class into an engaging and enjoyable learning experience, making complex financial concepts accessible and interesting.
Professor Kulkarni is committed to preparing students for the workforce. Unlike other courses that focus solely on technical skills, Professor Kulkarni emphasizes practical skills and the ability to articulate finance-related discussions. Each class begins with a refreshing approach — reading morning news and delving into various topics, fostering a real-world understanding of the financial landscape.
One aspect that particularly resonated with me was Professor Kulkarni's dedication to addressing important issues within the finance industry. She fearlessly broached the subjects of racism and sexism, fostering a crucial dialogue that is often overlooked.
The grading for the course is well-balanced and reasonable (Class participation 10%, Smartbook Reading Assignments and Quizzes 25%, Group Problem Sets 20%, Midterm, Midterm Project 25%, Final 20%)
Professor Kulkarni's Intermediate Investments course is a standout experience. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking for not only a solid understanding of intermediate investments but also a teacher who goes above and beyond to prepare students for success in the finance field.

I serious don't understand why is the rating for her so low and I was worried initially. However, she is really a fantastic professor. She tried to make connection between contents in this class and real-world examples, by making us to talk about news articles in finance we read. The class is only 40% exam (1 midterm and 1 final), 25% homework and project, the rest 35% are just give-away points if you made the effort to complete them. She also made a lot of comments on her experiences in finance which are interesting to know. Some improvements I would suggest: Homework solutions are sometimes out of order, the final exam has few mistakes (missing numbers, and vague questions); also if she wants us to improve interview (as said in the first week of class), I think the class can really incorporate interview-style question in investment management jobs into the class. I would recommend her overall!
