The Nature and Nurture of the Senses was a great COLA and really everything that you could hope to get out of one of these classes. Professor Goering was very nice, understanding and seemed to have a passion for the subject. The classes are basically entirely discussion based, with each focused on one of the senses. Every week there is a short blog post that you're responsible for, in addition to around 30 pages of reading out of the book (it's a small book however and not as bad as that sounds). Commenting on two other classmates' posts was also required, which I found to be my least favorite part of the class but it wasn't as if that was super challenging. We spent several classes going over resources that UVA offers like the library and career center and he even took us out to dinner for one of the classes which was great. There is a final 3-5 page essay covering your biggest takeaway from the course, which counts as 30% of the grade. All in all this class is an easy A, covers interesting material and has a good Prof that is also a knowledgeable adviser. 10/10 would recommend.

If you can take a COLA with Goering by god please do it. Some COLA's require long papers, incredible amounts of work, and a whole lot of nonsense, and ultimately do not give a good grade. For Goering, show up, make your blog posts, and get that solid A. He even took us out to dinner once instead of hosting class. Incredibly nice guy, super kind, just want's you to succeed. 10/10
