Igor is a great professor! He is a very good lecturer and tells you pretty much exactly what will be on the tests and what to study. If you don't do well on the tests, it is because you haven't gone to class or didn't study what he told you to study. He's a really nice guy and is always willing to explain things after class or during office hours. If you go to office hours before a test, it's kind of like a little study session with other students. He's an interesting guy to get to know. I recommend this class! It taught me a lot of stuff that I had never been exposed to.

Igoe was a great professor! His class was very interesting and not difficult at all. He seemed to genuinely care about the subject matter, and was very interesting to listen to. I would highly recommend him!

Professor Igoe was great, you can tell he really loves what he is teaching, and he is a really dynamic speaker. The workload for this class was very minimal, about a chapter of reading each week. The grade came from take home, open book midterm and final, and participation in discussion. Overall, this was a really interesting and relatively easy class.

This course is very reading heavy, and if you don't read what is assigned, you will not do well on the midterm or the final. All tests were take home, which was great, and he also let us use our textbook and other materials. So, if you don't get a decent grade in this class, you just didn't do the work. He is also very good at lecturing, but he doesn't write much on the lecture slides, so you really have to take good notes. Overall, I thought the class was interesting and would recommend it.

Interesting course that helps you appreciate a lot, though expect the word 'culture' to appear very frequently. Igoe is an enthusiastic and supportive professor, and the exams were not very difficult.

Loved this class. Was not all that interested in the material at first, but enjoyed it as it got going. Professor Igoe was the man and I could not have asked for a better class to take in my first semester at UVA. Highly recommend this class with Igoe to anybody in the future. We had a take home midterm and take home final (open notes and book) that both combined for 70% of our final grade. 15% was for our discussion that I showed up to all but one and got a 98% for. The final 15% was the better grade of our mid term and our final. Great class that is a simple grade if you put the time in!

Overall, pretty good class! Professor Igoe is so intelligent and passionate about his field and you can really tell during lectures. My advice: Go to lecture (the lecture slides themselves aren't very helpful, really listen), do the readings (take notes or at least highlight), and visit during office hours if you are confused (and you probably will be but won't feel like going to office hours). The discussion section is absolutely worthless, but you have to go. There are two tests, a mid term and a final, and they're both take home. They both take a LONG time to finish, but if you're familiar with the readings and take good notes at lecture then you will be fine. The class is easy and interesting, the only hard part is the time is takes to finish the tests. I would definitely recommend!

Professor Igoe is a great professor! He is a great lecturer, and very easy to pay attention to. He's extremely passionate about the subject that he teaches, and is so in-tune with the current developments in his field. I must receive three emails from him a week with links to articles or events related to his class with messages like "this article is related to [whatever we're learning]! You should check it out!" There are two take-home open-book tests throughout the semester, with a final in-class (I think; he hasn't officially said so yet). Honestly, the first open-book test was very time-consuming, but I felt like I knew so much about anthropology by the end of it. I think that way of testing is good for an intro class because there's so much info to be covered, and that makes studying incredibly difficult. Overall, would recommend this class!!
