Seriously one of the best TAs I've ever had. Shoots back replies to emails fast and explains well. The class was difficult but if you were willing to go to class/office hours and do the homework (not just copying), the class was do-able. Beling has a grading style were he takes the best of 3 different weight scales, so that's pretty cool too.
Midterm/Final averages are usually in the 50s-60s, but there's a curve

Very difficult. Homework assignments take a long time. Required.
The material is ridiculously hard, but the professors know it and try to keep it as fair as possible. Both Beling and Patek are really smart, but still work hard to get the class to understand the material. If you work hard, you will do ok.
Very difficult, but fulfilling in the end.
It's a good class and you will learn a lot about approaches to problem solving. The book is worthless. Do not buy it.
Interesting class. The concepts are tough but kind of fun, especially when you start to understand the homework problems. The tests are really tough and it is almost impossible to study for them since they're open note, but I managed to pull a decent grade after a horrible performance on the midterm.
Really hard class, at least I thought so. Patek is a good teacher though.
This class is simply terrible. You have to take it as a SYS engineer, but as for those who are in biomed or are doing a SYS minor, take something else. Of course there are some people in the class that get it and do well, but with a full load of classes during a semester, this class can hurt your ability to get other work done. Start the HW's early, as they are due about the same time as the stat HW and sometimes SYS323 assignments. The midterms and final are god awful hard and confusing, and you will most likely run out of time or at least leave 1 of the 4 nearly blank because you just dont get it or dont have time. I am not trying to scare people, I am just saying these things because I didnt have this warning ahead of time.
PS dont worry if the avg is a 50 on the midterm or final, just do the best you can and you'll see you'll be around the avg, and they will curve it so dont sweat. If you are one of those overachievers who will get mad if you dont get an A, I hate you and hope this class hurts your GPA. To all those just trying to get by, I love you guys, I hope you get A's.
The best/ hardest/ most frustrating systems class ever..
Midterm is hard. Really strive to understand the homeworks since they are your best bet in preparing for the tests.
