Favorite UVA class yet! The class topic was Sense of Place: Perception of Coastal Ecosystems, so for two weeks in January, I had the "summer" camp experience I never got as a kid. The class is located at the Anheuser Busch Coastal Research Center located in Cape Charles, VA, which is on the DelMarVa peninsula, past the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (which we got a behind the scene tour of). There are two buildings, the classrooms/labs and the dorms, one for girls, one for the boys, one for the professor-- basically Jefferson's Academical Village. The class readings and writings were very minimal, short essays and poems and 6 writing assignments (all creative ~1.5 pages, which was wonderful because as engineers we don't get to do that often). Lots of field trips(which is awesome), including Assateague Island, NASA, etc. Learn about the Eastern Shore (sea level rise), nature (observations), etc. Professor is very direct and helpful on writing. Best way to fulfill my STS 2500 credit!
