This was probably the most boring class I've taken at UVA. I feel I was never truly prepared for the assignments and exams, but I also never did the reading. If you put in the slightest bit of effort on the assignments it's an easy A/B class, depending on how well you can bs the exams, but it'll feel like a waste of time the entire semester. The content would be really interesting if it weren't for the monotone delivery of his lectures. If you're really intrigued by the material, take it- it isn't all that hard, just don't expect to be able to stay awake during class. #tCFspring22 #tCFspring2022

This course was really enjoyable, it was a lot of very basic astronomy, so if you've taken an intro astronomy course, or you're knowledgeable about on ground observational astronomy its going to be a lot of review. Overall, I thought the course was enjoyable but a little bit boring. It was really simple information and overall an easy class. The information was super interesting but the delivery was a little dry at times.

Oh boy... Humanities people: if you need the science area credit that bad, then take this course, I guess. It's material that might have been more interesting if it weren't for Chevalier's lack of enthusiasm and general spaciness. You'll never quite know what's going to be on the tests, which makes this bs science class unexpectedly difficult -- and not in a intellectually exciting, challenging way. Maya stuff was cool though.

Chevalier is a brilliant professor and seems to have one of the greatest understandings in the ASTR department. He is very straight forward in his lectures and tests and there are no surprises. It is obvious in class on who reads the material because he frequently asks intuitive questions, that’s answers were in the reading, in his lectures. The class has some focus on general astronomy which, for some, can be difficult to conceptualize solely from lecture but the professor is readily available.

TA was pretty much non-existent. Lectures very different from reading. Incredibly boring.

Mr. Chevalier is probably the smartest person I have ever met. He knows the material inside and out but his major flaw is that he doesn't seem to be able to get down on the student's level.
