Thought this was going to be a good course and really enjoyed reading the reviews for this course. I thought there was a lot of reading and work for a class of such a low level. The Coogan textbook is boring, and the Bible reading is excessive. If you don't like reading, don't take this course because there's a lot of it and I certainly did not feel like I got much out of it at all. Also, Professor Halvorson-Taylor is great, but her TAs leave a whole lot to be desired. I took the course with Ashley Tate and thought she was going to be great - clearly having much more knowledge than the other two TAs, but she was not an easy grader. She's a nice person, not a great TA. In other words, take this class if you like the Bible and want to learn about it. If you don't, don't take it. Grading can really be the make or break in this course.
Halverson Taylor seemed nice at first, and the content is pretty interesting, but she's low key in love with the sound of her own voice. I had a few friends recommend this class but I cannot emphasize enough how boring her lectures became. It seems like she enjoys lecturing because she likes to hear her own voice and talk about how much she knows and how deep she can think, rather than she likes conveying material to young minds.
The class is a 4/5, the professor is a 1/5.
