Halverson Taylor seemed nice at first, and the content is pretty interesting, but she's low key in love with the sound of her own voice. I had a few friends recommend this class but I cannot emphasize enough how boring her lectures became. It seems like she enjoys lecturing because she likes to hear her own voice and talk about how much she knows and how deep she can think, rather than she likes conveying material to young minds.
The class is a 4/5, the professor is a 1/5.

Thought this was going to be a good course and really enjoyed reading the reviews for this course. I thought there was a lot of reading and work for a class of such a low level. The Coogan textbook is boring, and the Bible reading is excessive. If you don't like reading, don't take this course because there's a lot of it and I certainly did not feel like I got much out of it at all. Also, Professor Halvorson-Taylor is great, but her TAs leave a whole lot to be desired. I took the course with Ashley Tate and thought she was going to be great - clearly having much more knowledge than the other two TAs, but she was not an easy grader. She's a nice person, not a great TA. In other words, take this class if you like the Bible and want to learn about it. If you don't, don't take it. Grading can really be the make or break in this course.

This class was kind of interesting, but there is a lot of reading which is actually pretty necessary to do. I feel like it was too difficult for an intro, but this is college after all. Professor was really nice. Ended up with a B even though I went to every lecture and did all the readings.

I loved this class! Professor Halvorson-Taylor is great at lecturing and never failed to make a topic interesting. Also, I would recommend getting Kyle Hughes as a TA. He was always extremely helpful and wanted to see everyone succeed. Obviously, I would highly recommend this class. Just be ready to do quite a bit of reading and some short writing assignments in addition to quite a bit of preparing for the tests. The reading isn't always 100% necessary, but if you want a leg up on the class, I suggest doing it.

In terms of content, I really enjoyed this class. Professor Halvorson-Taylor's lectures are very interesting, and I usually left with a full understanding of a particular story or passage. The amount of work that this class requires is where the dissatisfaction comes in. I often got behind on readings, and the writing assignments were somewhat stressful. I recommend this class only if you are actually interested in the subject.

This class was difficult. My TA was a super attractive woman, but she graded my papers and Exam so hard. The Professor HT, was boring in lecture. She is accessible, and I just found that she didn't present the material in an exciting manner. You couldn't tell what she considered important for her tests when she stressed most of her sentences during the lecture. The final is easy and the better you do as the class goes on, you earn a better grade for the whole year. 'nuf said

This class was PHENOMENAL. Halverson-Taylor is an incredible lecturer and at the end of every class I had to hold back the urge to clap. The material is interesting and the work load is manageable. I highly, highly, highly recommend this course to majors and non-majors alike!

Class was very informative and taught me quite a bit about how to write for social study classes. Only complaint is that most first year students will do poorly on first two papers since they are just being taught some basics of ENWR when assigned. However, you are allowed to do two extra papers after mid-term that drop these bad ones which is great. Overall, I highly reccommend this class

This is a very fun and interesting class, i learned a lot of new things about a book i THOUGHT i knew very well. A big part of your grade depends on what T/A you have though. Some T/As grade your assignments much more harshly than others.

Professor Halvorson-Taylor is wonderful. She's brilliant and her lectures are proof of it. I'm always shocked when class is over because it's gone by so fast! Take this class!!!
