Professor Allen is an amazing person. I thought he was very knowledgeable on the subjects of ecology and religion. I enjoyed the assigned readings (they're easy readings) and the daily reading/discussion questions weren't hard at all. Everyone in my class always had stuff to contribute to the discussion so they were fine. We had one paper midway through the semester and an easy reflection paper near the end. Then we had a final research paper at the end of the semester. I don't think Professor Allen is the easiest grader but he's definitely not harsh either. I'd suggest going to his office hours and talking through your subject/thesis beforehand (he's super nice). The only thing I didn't like about him/class was how late he was at uploading the readings/questions for the next class and how long it took him to grade our paper 1. But he told us this semester was really difficult for him so I don't think this would be the norm. Overall, I highly recommend Professor Allen/this class!
