This class had a lot of first-years and athletes looking to fulfill their gen eds. Taking upper-level religious studies courses at the same time was like night and day in the quality of our discussions and the enthusiasm of the students. But...this has probably been the easiest class I've taken at UVA besides RELC 1220 (Early Christianity & New Testament). If you're familiar with the Old Testament (and have a nice TA) you can get by skimming or skipping the readings. If you take that route, you'll just miss out on some interesting/controversial points made by Collins and may not get Tite's jokes. He's definitely a quirky guy. Weighting: 25% - Online Learning Reflections: 5, 500-word informal discussion posts about your reactions to material covered in class, questions, etc. 25% - Weekly Quizzes: usually about 5 easy short-answer or multiple-choice questions on the previous week's content 25% - Weekly Worksheets and Tutorial Sessions: show up to discussion section with your completed worksheet on that week's content 15% - Final Poster Project: make a poster in a group of 5-7 about anything related to the Hebrew Bible/OT 10% - Mid-Semester Check In: sit in Tite's office for 15 minutes (he'll probably just talk about his research if you don't have any real questions or concerns) #tCFS24
