Neal is probably my favorite studio professor I have taken a class with at UVA. He is more than willing to help you develop your own personal art style and encourages you to think about how your personal life relates to your art. There is not a lot of oil painting technique taught in the class, but he is willing to help. As with any studio class, the workload is pretty heavy, but all of the projects are open-ended so it is easy to have fun with the projects. There are usually pretty lengthy/jargony readings assigned every week, but I definitely think they helped expand my thinking about art theory/practice. Every Monday is a theory day where art theory is discussed and every Wednesday is a work day. #tCFfall2021
