Professor Pivonka is the kind of teacher who cares as much about his students as he does the course. He creates a class environment that's fun and engaging, and he breaks down the readings into simple, digestible concepts. I wish I could take the class again -- he is a fantastic teacher and just an all-around wonderful person :)

Pivonka is one of the best professors I've had at UVa. I've taken both his Political Economy (PLAP 3500) and American Political Tradition (PLAP 2250) courses, and both times he's been incredibly solid. Super nice and a very fair grader. Class discussions are interesting and humorous. Take any class with Pivonka, you won't regret it.

Professor Pivonka is great. He's a young guy so he definitely relates to college-aged kids, he has a great sense of humor, and he's very passionate about the material. He's able to make it understandable without dumbing it down.

I cannot stress enough how much you should take this class. Pivonka is super chill but also great at leading discussions, definitely one of my favorite professors. The class is great at getting you to think about our political system and it's development. I would recommend this class to everyone.
