Prof. Bernstein is the BEST! Only 2 out of class assignments the entire semester, which each only took ~2hrs. Everyone improved so much during the semester, and I have really come to enjoy drawing because of this class. Granted the class is pretty long, and she uses every minute, but you really learn how to draw in this class. She doesn't take your pencil from you and draw things for you; she'll give suggestions, and you learn to draw with your own style. She cares a lot and is an amazing teacher. You will do well if you show that you genuinely care and take this class seriously -- your grade is based solely on "improvement" from your first drawing.

Easiest Intro to Drawing professor by far. Take this if you are a true beginner looking for an easy A. Don't take this if you have already had a lot of experience in drawing because it will not challenge you at all. Barbara is super nice and caring. Sometimes she might say something rude, but she doesn't mean it - she just doesn't know any better.

This is one of the best classes I have taken. All the work is in class and has taught me so much. Prof. Bernstein really knows what she is doing and is very involved. Overall, great experience.

This class was fantastic. Professor Bernstein really wishes to make you learn and helps you all along the way. There are very few assignments outside of class because she does not wish to stress you out with those kinds of assignments. In the beginning the class can be difficult to concentrate for 2.5 hours, but by the end the professor Bernstein teaches you the techniques to both become a better drawer and how to concentrate on the drawing at hand.
